By now you should all have your green clean-up flyers for this Saturday, June 10th. Please let me know if you plan to participate! There have been some questions about the day, so I wanted to clarify a few things for you all: --This is a completely block-run grassroots clean-up effort. The city is not suppling anything, and it would be ideal for neighbors to bring their own supplies --There is no dumpster this Saturday, or truck service. Please be sure to call the CVCBD at 410-235-4411 to let us know where bags of garbage are so we can pick them up on Monday. Please let neighbors know that if they want to clean their basements they will have to take their goods to the dump on Sisson Street themselves. --As of now the forecast is for warm and sunny, but should it rain this Saturday, the clean up will be postponed until June 17th. --Interested in having a block party after your clean up? We are able to fund one party a year per block for up to $50 to cover basic supplies such as hot dogs, plates, chips and sodas. You must present receipts to the CVCBD for reimbursement. Please contact me for more information! All that said, the CVCBD does still have some supplies left over from the Spring Clean Sweep, should you need some extra brooms, shovels, rakes or a few bags. Please email or call to let me know you need them, and how many! You can come to pick them up this week, or Wes can drop them off to your home during business hours on Friday. If you need to make arrangements for an evening pick-up, just let me know. Thanks everyone! I hope you have a wonderful clean up day with your neighbors! There have been some questions about students who disrupt the community, and what the best process is for dealing with issues as they come up. Here is what Salem said- ---Regarding JHU student-related matters, if you have a problem, send me an email and copy Carrie Bennett, the student - community liaison and compliance officer. If there is a nighttime problem, call JHU security at 410-516-4600, but also send Carrie and me an email. Obviously, if it is a serious emergency, call police (911) and/or JHU Security.--- Carrie's information: Carrie Bennett, liason at jhu.edu, Community Relations Liaison Salem's information: Salem Reiner, sreiner1 at jhu.edu, Director of Community Affairs I hope that's helpful! How did Saturday go for you? I've heard from a few of you, but would love to hear how your clean-up efforts went if you haven't already written. I was out on my bike riding around the neighborhood from about 9am to 1pm on Saturday, looking for happy cleaning block leaders. I didn't see too many, but Joey tells me that our clean team picked up about 42 bags throughout the neighborhood from the clean up, so I know you all were out there. I may have come by too early or too late to see the action, but I am glad to know that you and your neighbors were all so effective. Thank you and congratulations!!! If you weren't able to get out last weekend and would like to do a clean up this Saturday or another weekend, just let me know. I am happy to print up some flyers for your block. Also, let me know if you're planning any other events on your block that I can help with. In the upcoming months, I am going to need some help from each block leader. I attended my last Americorps training today, and I have a very large and comprehensive report to write by the end of July. I will be asking for feedback on the program as well as a full reporting of hours from each of you. Nothing to worry about at this time, but just know that it's coming up. I will be contacting you by email and/or phone call. Also, I am considering July 11th as the date of our last block leader meeting of the summer. It will be at 7pm at FutureCare at 27th and N Charles. My last day with the CVCBD is August 7th. There will be a month or two gap and then another Americorps Volunteer Coordinator will take my place for the next year. During that gap you will be able to contact members of the CVCBD staff for assistance. I will have more details on that soon. Thanks everyone! I'm looking forward to talking with you soon! I hope this email finds you all well! It has been as exciting spring and summer with block parties and clean ups and greening projects. I am glad to have been a part of making them happen. I am coming into my last month with the CVCBD, and I have a large and comprehensive report due within the next few weeks. I need your help to complete this report!! **Please report all hours worked to me by July 11h!** I need a comprehensive list of what you have been working on and how long it has taken you. I do not need exact dates, but just the month of the activity. If other volunteers have worked with you, please let me know how many and how long they worked. There will be a Block Leader Meeting on the evening of Tuesday, July 11th at 7pm at FutureCare (27th and N. Charles Street). This will be the last Block Leader meeting until the fall. Please plan to attend and bring your timesheets to the meeting. In the case that you can not make the meeting, please report your hours to me by email. I will be making phone calls to those who have not reported hours to me by the 11th, so if you don't want me to bug you at home, send in those hours! Thank you!! You are all doing tremendous work and I look forward to seeing you all at the last block leader meeting of my tenure with the CVCBD. It turns out that the CVCBD Board Meeting is in that same room on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. FutureCare double-booked the room, and since the Board Meeting is a recurring monthly event it takes precedence. I plan to reschedule the meeting for the next day, Wednesday, July 12, at 7:00pm. I will confirm this when I hear back from FutureCare tomorrow. Thank you!! Sorry for the confusion! I hope you can all still make it to this meeting. Please don't forget to report your hours! Please bring them to the meeting or report them by email. Thanks!
