It was great to see some of you at the meeting last week. I am writing to apologize for the fact that the minutes are not yet out and I have not followed up on some things. I have the flu. It's getting better, but I was out of the office longer than I expected and I am working slower than I'd like to be. I just wanted to keep you all posted and let you know that I am working on things, and information will be coming out piece by piece the rest of this week and next week. Hope you are all enjoying the spring flowers! Thank you for your well-wishes! I am feeling much better and the pile of papers on my desk is shrinking considerably! Here are the notes from the last Block Leader meeting: --------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm. Held at FutureCare on the corner of N. Charles and 27th Street. 9 block leaders (or representatives) were in attendance plus myself. So we have been getting mixed results with the effort to distribute the light bulbs from JHU. It seems that some people won't even take something when it's free! Some block leaders returned their bulbs, while others are holding onto them to try again in the warmer weather. Feel free to do whatever you feel is best for your block (in other words, if you want to be done with it that's fine- just make sure you report where the bulbs have gone and return the rest to me). The Mayor's Super Spring Sweep Thing will be on April 22nd. The CVCBD will once again hold tables where supplies can be borrowed. It's ok to take multiple supplies for your block as long as you sign them out return them all at once. I will be distributing flyers to each block leader to pass out on their blocks during the first or second week of April. I don't want to pass them out too early, because people may forget, but if they go out a weekend or two before the event that should be just fine. I hope that every block leader will be able to participate in this great event. It's a wonderful chance to interact with your neighbors and work together for the good of the neighborhood. There was some question about what exactly can be picked up on the Spring Sweep day, April 22nd. It is not a bulk trash day, so if people are clearing out their basements or homes, large items will not be picked up. This event is to clean the outside areas of the homes. But if large items are already in the alleys, etc., there should be some opportunity to dispose of them. I will work with the Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods as well as the Sisson Street facility to find out exactly what will be picked up on April 22nd after the Spring Sweep. the students of John's Hopkins are working with Community Associations in Charles Village to connect with the community in which they live and go to school. There should be some opportunities to work with the students as they volunteer in the community. They could possibly lend an extra hand with clean-ups, and the like. Sharon Guida of the 2700 block of MD Ave. is working with JHU. I will let you all know when I learn more about how the students would like to work with the community. It's time to look at the surveys you've received from your neighbors and start making plans about what activity you will organize this year! There are plenty of options- a clean up (some time after the Mayor's), greening or gardening projects, a block meeting, a neighborhood watch program or a block party. It really is up to you and your neighbors. So talk with them, go over your surveys and decide what makes the most sense for your block. If you have other block leaders near you, feel free to work together to do a two or three block project if that works for you. You have tons of support on these projects both from me and the CVCBD. We will work together to get you everything you need to make your project a success! **Don't forget to RSVP for the Volunteer Recognition Luau!! It will be held on April 29th at 3pm in the garden of the VLP.** If you still need to report hours, please do! I can take them whenever you'd like to report them. Thanks!! Attached is a list of block leaders, the blocks they serve, their phone numbers and email addresses. This is for internal purposes. Please feel free to network on projects!! If you have any needs, questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I love to hear from you!
