Unraveling The Wire

Ed Burns, Producer/Writer
John Doman, "Dep. Commissioner Rawls"
Idris Elba, "Russell 'Stringer' Bell"
Seth Gilliam, "Sgt. Ellis Carver"
George Pelecanos, Producer/Writer

Karen Thorson, Producer
Michael K. Williams, "Omar"

Dubbed a "Homeric epic of modern America" by Salon, HBO's The Wire is most
aptly described not as a police drama or crime drama, but as a human drama. This
artfully subversive series about Baltimore police and the criminals they
target—crafted like a "visual novel" rather than a series of short stories, as
most episodic dramas are,—explores the unlikely theme of the conflict between
contemporary institutions and individuals, and what happens when the institutions
themselves become paramount over the people who serve them. The Museum will
screen an entire episode from season three.

Tickets for this seminar will be on sale to Museum Members starting Monday,
December 20, 2004. On sale to the general public on Monday, January 3, 2005.
