Still going strong, the Baltimore Farmers' Market under the Jones Falls
Expressway at Holliday and Saratoga streets is open every Sunday from May 1
until December 18, rain or shine. There you can find everything you expect
from a farmers market - just-picked fruits, homegrown vegetables, fresh
eggs, homemade bread - as well as some unique Baltimore additions like
cultural foods and pit beef sandwiches.
New at the market this year, Reid's Orchard is offering workshops on
everything from picking out the best tomatoes to using herbs to make your
summer barbecues special. They'll even teach the budding gardeners in your
family how to pot and care for flowers. For the early risers, most
workshops are held at 8:30 a.m., and for the latecomers a second workshop is
run again at 10 a.m. What you'll find in May:
May 1
Kid's Focus: Parents/children potting flowers (9 - 11 a.m.)
May 8
Container Herb Gardening
May 15
Heirloom Tomatoes
May 22
Companion Planting in your Garden: How to combine herbs and vegetables to
optimize flavor and plant health.
May 29
Using Fresh Herbs in Cooking
