To Friends of the Baltimore International Rhythm Festival

There is a real possibility that there will be no Rhythm Festival this year. Several things have contributed to this state of affairs. First, BIRDS' financial resources are the lowest they have been in nearly a decade, too low for us to feel comfortable proceeding with our usual festival design. In addition, my life has changed and I am not available to play a major role in the organization anymore. Lastly, it is time to start planning for this year's festival and for the first time in ten years there is no team in place to tackle the job. 

It is possible to design a festival with the meager resources we have available but a good sized crew with the heart to do it will have to materialize and commit themselves to the task with in a month or so to have a reasonable shot at doing it. We need volunteers to help with publicity and marketing, permits, a vendor and volunteer coodrinator, a program director and a festival director to work with me to help pull it all together. (About ten people are needed)

So here's my plea. If you love the rhythm festival and want it to continue; if you're a task orientated person who is comfortable with responsibility and enjoys working collaboratively, an opportunity exist right now to make a difference. A few hours a week steadily applied through the Spring, a bit more during the Summer. August and September does tend to get a little hectic. We need your help to save the Rhythm Festival!
