this same group of kids verbally assaulted a couple about 2 wks ago. making lewd remarks to the female. when her husb tried to stop them, they, the bicycle gang, about 10, proceded to attack him. i was on the phone with 911,screaming, in prograss, oh no they threw a bottle at him, etc. it took a second cqall to finally get the police to respond. by then it was over. fortunately many people came out of their homes which may hqave short circuited the gang.

  Subject: [Chat] Kids stealing handbags

Sheila Rees and I were walking home from Donna's in the 2800 block of St. Paul Street last night about 9:30 when a teenager on a bicycle rode up from behind and grabbed my handbag from me. I was carrying it in my hand, sort of swinging it, and it wasn't hard for him to jerk it loose. He took off down St. Paul, avoided the Neighborhood Walkers, who lunged at him, and got away. The Walkers had 911 on the phone immediately, and they chased the kid all over the 'hood but still haven't caught him. (Thanks to Jeff and Kent, who have been walking their route for years.)

Women beware: don't carry your handbag loosely in your hand! I learned my lesson. Also, everyone should be aware that a group of kids from the 27th and Guilford/Barclay area has taken to riding around perpetrating crimes like this. They clearly are targeting the retail/restaurant area.

Incidentally we know who this kid is and where he lives. His name is Kevin, and he lives on 27th Street.
