Does anyone know the owners of the houses affected by this crash? WJZ has a good video on its website. The story ends with a comment about the houses possibly being condemned - hopefully that does not automatically mean they will be demolished. That would really have a negative effect on the 2800 block

(WJZ) Baltimore, MD Wednesday morning a fuel-tanker slammed into a North Baltimore rowhouse.

It happened at 6:30 a.m. at the 2800 block of North Howard Street.

The truck severed a gas line, forcing hazmat crews to evacuate the entire block.

Authorities say the driver, who was transporting nearly a full load of diesel fuel, lost control of the tanker and hit a parked car before plowing through the house.

Baltimore County Fire Chief Frank Hazzard tells WJZ's Kathryn Brown "there was combustible liquid inside the truck that could potentially add fuel to a fire in one were to start."

Investigators say it's possible the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The homeowner says he was asleep when the truck crashed inches away from him. "Security is one thing that can't be replaced. Being able to sleep in your own home and knowing that a big fuel truck isn't going to come crashing through," said Towne Coates.
