Jenny, I recently had new locks put on all my doors. It's expensive so it would be great if you could do it yourself. (There's a report on locks in the new Consumer's Reports) I used Robert's Key Service and they did a good job. They were recommended by a fellow who was a real expert in old house locks but has now gone into the security business. I don't know if they do repairs to old wood..........but they did have to work around a lot of old "cuts" in my doors. They also do wonders with old interior locks.

Do the people who do repointing also do brick walkways/steps? I need to have my front walk redone.......it has a lot of cracks and some bricks are breaking off the steps. Help! And thanks, Karen

Hello all,

I am looking to get some repairs made to my front
door(s). You may have run into the same problem in
your house. Basically, I imagine our door has had
about 10 different locks installed over the years and
the wood in that section of the door is badly damaged.
The rest of the door is fine.

I'd like to get that area filled in/repaired and
perhaps covered with brass and a new lock installed.
Any suggestions? Do I just need a locksmith for this?

Also, I'd like a brass kick plate on the bottom of the
front door, but it would have to have a mail slot cut
through it...

Thanks, all!
Jenny Rolling

P.S. I can provide referrals for brick repointing and
painting in return :)
