SPECIAL COMMUNITY CLEANUP
LED BY JHU STUDENTS IN CHARLES VILLAGE: 4/15
******VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!******
Newly formed JHU Student/Community Committee has scheduled a
student-led community cleanup for April 15, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. at two locations in Charles Village. This date was chosen
by the students who are unable to participate in the Citywide Cleanup
on April 22 because that is the weekend of the JHU spring fair. JHU
students, some of whom represent such campus organizations as Alpha
Epsilon Pi, JHU Student Newsletter, WaWa, ACLU, Rugby, Sigma Chi, APO,
College Democrats, Kappa Kappa Gamma and ROTC, will be present to
volunteer their services to the communities of Oakenshawe, Charles
Village and Remington for selected projects. Volunteers from Charles
Village Civic Association are needed to meet and greet the students for
coffee and bagels on campus at the grassy knoll in front of the Library
in the 3300 block of Charles Street, to escort them to the cleanup
site, and to join in with the students in the cleanup at the following
Charles Village sites:
1. 2900-3100 blocks of St. Paul Street: broom clean, pick up, and
bag trash and leaves from gutters to property lines on Westside of
street with emphasis on talking to resident and absentee property
owners on those blocks about maintaining the cleanliness after the
cleanup. Contact Jeff or Mariann Millard at 410-585-6073 or
QBDmar at cavtel.net to volunteer at this cleanup site.
2. Mace Street community garden located in alley running behind
the houses on the even side of the 2700 block of Maryland Avenue
between Maryland Avenue and Howard Streets: broom clean, pick up, and
bag trash and leaves in and around garden. Contact Sharon L. Guida at
410-889-0436 or SLG2700 at cs.com to volunteer at this cleanup site.
The committee will supply brooms, rakes, shovels, gloves, and
trashbags, but it would be helpful if volunteers could bring some of
the same.
Don't miss this opportunity to meet our JHU student neighbors who want
to help beautify the Charles Village Community. At the same time we
can show the student volunteers that the Charles Village Community
welcomes their initiative and looks forward to a long-term JHU
student/community partnership for the continued improvement of "quality
of life" in Charles Village.
If you would like to have the students volunteer at an additional
cleanup site, contact Sharon L. Guida before Monday, April 10, 2006,
with the details and the names of at least two community volunteers who
will be responsible for that cleanup site. Additional cleanup sites
will be added depending on the number of student and community
volunteers who participate.

NORTHERN DISTRICT COMMUNITY COUNCIL: 4/19
******VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!******
The Baltimore City Police Department has hired a consulting firm to
work with the police districts and community to develop a strategic
plan that will focus on crime, juvenile, and quality of life issues
that the community faces. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,
and threats of the Northern District have been discussed in previous
meetings, and the planning process is beginning. The meeting on April
19 will be the fourth meeting.
The CVCA is interested in finding a volunteer from the community to
attend regular meetings of the Community Council and relate information
to the CVCA board and membership. If you would like to volunteer,
please contact Beth Bullamore, CVCA President, at
beth_cvca at hotmail.com.
Community Council meetings are open to residents.

ILLEGAL SIGN RALLY: 4/22 and 5/20
ILLEGAL SIGN LEGISLATION
Organized and led by community activists Ralph and Dana Moore, the
April 1 rally against "We Buy Houses" and other illegal signs
attracted representatives of many area organizations and community
groups.
Please let City Council know of your support of Bill 05-0051 Illegal
Signs. Saturday's rally and the Illegal Signs legislation make it
official: individuals are encouraged to take down illegal signs, but be
sure to mark the date and location of each sign's removal and report
to 311, as documentation for prosecution.
For now, turn in the signs to Community Relations Officers Doug Gibson
and Jon Walter at Northern District Police, just south of Coldspring
New Town on West Coldspring Lane.
If you see posting in progress, report the tag, date, time and location
to 311 and to the Moores at 443-255-5600 and vpcs at yahoo.com or
dmoore at wtplaw.com.
Also email the Moores to join this effort and with any information on
the sources of illegal posting.
Finally, make illegal sign removal a part of your Spring Clean-Up on
Saturday, April 22, and to join forces with CPHA on Saturday, May 20,
for a Citywide Goodbye We Buy Houses. For information on the CPHA
effort, please contact Mr. Likivu Speaks at
