[Chat] wireless router, from Wal-mart

If you want to avoid big-box stores, I suggest hitting up Litte Shop of Hardware on the corner of 33rd & Keswick in Hampden.  They should have a router in stock, and can also give you some advice on how to get your network set up.

But all of the major electronics chains will carry routers: Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City (although CC has pretty bad labor practices too).
