I go to Alex on the south side of the 200 block of W. Saratoga St. between
Park and Howard -- Russian immigrant, presumably did shoe repair back in the
Old Country, excellent service for very reasonable prices, and it's close to
my office, so he's convenient.  There's a sign in the window about shoe
repair.
