Message-ID: PLEASE FORWARD My friend Ray Carrier is the proprietor of Green Rider. I was with him in China last year during part of his search for the best electric cycles in the world. His search ended in Vancouver, Canada with the Motorino brand. They are smooth, powerful and very cool. He has brought them to Baltimore and if the people who want to see the city go green buy them and ride them it could transform transportation in Baltimore. Not only will the green the city but they will bring affordable transportation to people not able to buy cars. Green Rider is having a big "DECLARE YOUR INDEPENDENCE FROM OIL" sale to celebrate Independence Day. These bikes are worth checking out. Go down to Fells Point and rent one and I expect you will end up buying one. KZ PLEASE FORWARD Celebrate Independence Day By Ending Your Dependence on Oil Green Rider 4th of July Sale Green Rider is celebrating Independence Day by making it easy for you to Declare Your Independence from increasingly more expensive imported foreign oil and gas. 10% OFF SALE for Green Rider's all-Electric Scooters from Friday, July 3rd till Sunday, July 12th We're also celebrating Green Rider being featured in this month's Urbanite magazine. Green Rider scooters are fun, quiet, safe and easy to ride, and can travel up to 30 miles before needing a recharge - 3 models can take extra batteries to extend range to 50 miles. Green Rider scooters do not require insurance, license plates (tags), registration or inspection. All you need is a driver's license and a helmet, and they can be parked on the sidewalk, saving both money and time. And, if you want to go shopping for groceries, a cargo carrier is available that can handle up to 100 pounds. Financing available. AAA estimates that if gasoline costs $3 per galloon, and you drive 20,000 miles per year, the Total Average Cost of driving a car -- gas, maintenance, insurance, etc -- is almost exactly $10,000 per year. Driving an electric scooter costs about 10 cents per charge. Maintenance, because electric is so clean, is practically non-existent. This means that being a Green Rider will save you thousands of dollars per year. Not only do you get a discount from our "Independence from Oil" 10% OFF SALE, but the U.S. Economic Stimulus Act also provides an additional 10% tax credit as an incentive for consumers to switch to these alternative fuels vehicles. Green Rider was established to Help Baltimore Go GREEN. It's owner, Ray Carrier, searched for a year for the best electric scooter in the North American market and found Greenwit Technologies in Vancouver, Canada that produces Motorino Electric Vehicles. These Motorino brand scooters sell at Green Rider for between $2000 and $2300 (before the 10% OFF SALE). To try out these electric scooters, a Special Offer for Rentals to take test rides is available at only $25 for 2 hours, or a maximum fee of $50 per day. If you later decide to buy a Green Rider, the rental fee will be applied to the purchase price. Financing is available for Green Rider purchases. Green Rider opened in Baltimore this spring and is located at 723B S. Broadway Street near the Broadway Market in the heart of Fells Point, on the edge of the Inner Harbor and the central downtown area. We will be inviting those who stop by to help in creating community totem poles using recycled materials. If you have any art and craft materials or simple recyclables you would be interested in donating to the event, please let me know. I would be happy to pick up donations from area porches or simply contact me to make other pick up arrangements/check on the appropriateness of a donation. We'd love to have your interestingly shaped recyclable plastics, cardboard, bottle caps, buttons, fabric and matte board scraps, old stamps, balls of string and twine....... the list could go on and on....as long as it could go into single stream recycling at the end. At the end of the weekend at the booth, the totems will be encircled by a group of drummers, as the totems are dismantled and recycled into single stream and into the hands of any community members wanting to take a piece, so that the creative energy that went into making the totems is reinvested into the community to be recycled in new ways. Thanks in advance for any donations you might be able to send our way! You are receiving this email as a contact for a neighborhood/residents association in Baltimore. The Maryland Science Center and the Baltimore Ecosystem Study are embarking on a new citizen science project that we hope you will publicize to your constituents. The project is seeking interested individuals and groups to help us study climate change in the Baltimore area through temperature measurements this October. I have formatted this for a newsletter; however, please feel free to modify as appropriate for your purposes. We appreciate your help in spreading the word. Please let me know if you have questions. Here's the article text: Help Discover Climate Changes in Baltimore The Maryland Science Center, in conjunction with the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, is embarking on a new project involving everyday citizens studying indicators of climate change in Baltimore. With guidance from professional researchers, these projects will allow you to contribute to vital areas of ongoing study that affect us locally and globally that scientists can't obtain on their own. Communicating Climate Change (C3) participants will observe and record local phenomena that are indicative of climate change. We are currently signing up volunteers to participate in "temperature blast" events - timed temperature measurements within and around the Baltimore metro area to reveal temperature variations between cities and suburbs. Our first event will be Friday evening, October 2, from approximately 6:45pm to 8:00pm. We are looking for individuals or groups to take measurements at their home, school, place of worship, etc., at that time. In the spring and summer, citizen scientists can also monitor plant life cycle events, such as the first leaf or first flower to see how climate change affects the timing of these budbursts and other phases. We'll be studying flowering dogwood and forsythia in spring, and black-eyed susans in the summer. Any group or individual with interest in environmental issues or in becoming involved in scientific research is encouraged to participate. To learn more about these projects, please visit the project website: http://www.marylandsciencecenter.org/exhibits/c3.html - from there, you can join our citizen science email list for reminders and updates about the project. To sign up for the October 2 event (we'll let you know how to borrow or purchase the necessary temperature instruments), please email c3 at marylandsciencecenter.orgor call 410-545-5976. We hope you will join us in these important studies to learn more about how Baltimore is changing as the world changes. ---- Kathryn Stofer TerraLink Exhibit Manager Maryland Science Center 601 Light Street Baltimore, Maryland 21230 ph: 410/545-5976 fax: 410/545-5974 http://www.marylandsciencecenter.org Coming April 3 - Labor Day: Antarctic Writers and Artists Exhibition Traveling Exhibit coming this May: CHINASAURS -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Supposedly for repairs? The station is the closest one to Charles Village. It is located at 3123 Greenmount Ave. The building is currently vacant and there is no evidence of any work being done on it. The building is 100 years old. The City has $100,000 of the more than $2 million needed to repair it. They hope to get $2 million from the Federal government. They will be applying to Homeland Security for the funds but competition is tight as there is only $210 million available nationwide for Fire Station construction grants. So, there is no guarantee. The fire company that had been housed there is now located at East 25th Street and Kirk Avenue. This greatly increases the amount of time it takes for fire truck to get to Charles Village. According to Mapquest the old station is .4 miles from 30th and Calvert and the new one is 1.2 miles away. There is an open house at the old station on Saturday, July 18th from 10 AM to 2 PM at 3123 Greenmount Ave. Fire Chief James Clack will be there and you can take a tour of the station and see what their "wish list" of furnishings are. No doubt a strong community presence at this event will increase the likelihood of the station being re-opened as they will see the community cares. When returning security deposits of $50 or more, the landlord must include simple interest of 3 percent per year, accrued at six-month intervals from the date the security deposit was paid (1.5 percent every six-month period). I'm always anxious to try something new even though I am perfectly happy with the olive oil I already get. And the Farmers' Market is a lot closer than Trinacria.
