He?s a finish carpenter, custom woodworking guy with about 30 years of experience and a bucket-load of common sense behind him. His last gig was with Model City Models doing all kinds of installations and building architectural models, but sadly, the business went under. Great guy, smart and good-humored; a hard worker. (In the interest of full disclosure, he?s also my Beau.) I know that things are tough all over, but if you are planning any such work in your home, I hope you?ll give him a call. He's got photos of past projects and references -- or you can check out my lovely new porch going up at 3623 Elkader Rd! Becoming a successful voiceover artist requires a couple of things: a great voice and determination. There is a lot of work to be had but there's also a lot of competition. By being persistent, honing your skills, and networking, you can secure a spot in the marketplace. Classroom 34 invites you to join voiceover veteran Chris Graybill for an informative, three-hour tour of the world of professional voiceover that explores the myths and realities of the voiceover business. If you're an actor or singer looking for extra income, or people have told you that you have a distinctive voice. In this workshop you will learn how to get started in the business, get professional training and coaching, develop a demo, when to invest money in a demo, and what it takes to create a home studio. Those in attendance can expect to gain insight into professional opportunities beyond traditional TV/radio commercials. This includes corporate communication, documentaries, promos, Internet narration and more. The workshop offers a chance to hear a pro voiceover demo and what an audio script looks like. Chris Graybill has worked for 15 years in the Baltimore/Washington market. "I have done every kind of voiceover there is, including more than 500 commercials; documentaries for PBS, Discovery Channel, and the Learning Channel. I truly enjoy what I do". Graybill has also done voiceovers for hundreds of Fortune 500 corporations, promos for Maryland Public Television, and more than 100 audio books. In 2006, Publishers Weekly honored his performance of Jess Walter's The Zero with a Listen Up award, as one of the best fiction audio books of the year. Message-ID: Hello, neighbors, If you haven't had your kitchen knives sharpened in a while, I recommend that you try Adams & Assoc. in Hampden. Today I went over, and Mr. John Quincy Adams (yes, a descendant of the president) did seven knives and a pair of kitchen shears while I waited for $31. I chopped some onions, and it was great. I knew that our knives were not very sharp, but boy did this make a difference! You can reach him at (410) 889-9072. He works out of the carriage house behind his home, which he has converted into a workspace. Call before you come by, because it's often just him. To get there, take 41st west past the Rotunda and Superfresh. Turn left on Falls Rd. Go a block and turn left to go back east on 40th St. (40th St. jogs, and you see west before east.) Go about 15 yards and take the left marked "Dead End". Go the garage right behind the white house. There's a bell to ring on the garage. Interestingly, most of his business is sharpening grooming shears, which is more difficult than knives, and is apparently a dying art. His business is mostly mail-order, with clients as far away as Alaska and New Zealand. He says he is happy to do walk-in jobs but jokes that it's "pin money". (I'm remembers Saltpeter vs. Pins in "1776".) --Emil -- Emil Volcheck volcheck at acm.org http://EmilVolcheck.com/ From gewirtz at bellatlantic.net Thu Nov 12 08:05:56 2009 From: gewirtz at bellatlantic.net (Stephen J Gewirtz) Date: Thu, 12 Nov 2009 08:05:56 -0500 Subject: [Chat] Make sure storm sewers are not clogged by leaves Message-ID: <4AFC0834.2050203@bellatlantic.net> With a lot of rain coming for the next several days, and with lots of leaves on the ground, it is crucial that all of us make sure that the storm sewers closest to our houses are not clogged by leaves. I have just checked those on Guilford at 30th and 31st -- the grate on the NE corner of 31st and Guilford was covered with leaves, and I have removed most of them from the grate (enough to prevent a problem this time). I hope that CVCBD will finish the job (I used my shoe to remove leaves, but it was too slippery to get quite all of them). If storm sewers are clogged and if water cannot flow away, basements nearby will be flooded. I have been told that that happened a few years ago on Abell. So please check on the storm sewers closest to you. And please check again whenever a hurricane is predicted to drop a lot of rain on our neighborhood. Let's prevent flooding. Steve. To: "Charles Village Chat List" Date: Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 6:02 PM Hello, neighbors, If you haven't had your kitchen knives sharpened in a while, I recommend that you try Adams & Assoc. in Hampden.? Today I went over, and Mr. John Quincy Adams (yes, a descendant of the president) did seven knives and a pair of kitchen shears while I waited for $31.? I chopped some onions, and it was great.? I knew that our knives were not very sharp, but boy did this make a difference! You can reach him at (410) 889-9072.? He works out of the carriage house behind his home, which he has converted into a workspace. Call before you come by, because it's often just him. To get there, take 41st west past the Rotunda and Superfresh.? Turn left on Falls Rd.? Go a block and turn left to go back east on 40th St.? (40th St. jogs, and you see west before east.)? Go about 15 yards and take the left marked "Dead End". Go the garage right behind the white house. There's a bell to ring on the garage. Interestingly, most of his business is sharpening grooming shears, which is more difficult than knives, and is apparently a dying art.? His business is mostly mail-order, with clients as far away as Alaska and New Zealand.? He says he is happy to do walk-in jobs but jokes that it's "pin money". It only takes $2,720 a week to keep the shelter open, which >> provides, food, clothing, shelter, help in finding residences in the >> city, emotional support and good cheer to those of the community who >> are homeless. >> >> Being homeless today doesn't mean that you are lazy, or a drunk >> and/or a drug user. Being homeless today means that entire families >> are left on the street after losing their jobs, their homes and in >> part a great deal of their lives to the economic conditions that now >> plagued our country. Heart's Place Shelter has offered a helping >> hand over the years and continues to do so now during the colder time >> of the year and it is done with the inspiration and guidance of one >> woman, Mrs. Carol Berman. She somehow manages to keep the shelter >> open by getting volunteers to assist in the preparation of food and >> provide emotional and educational assistance to those who stop at the >> shelter. >> >> Now she needs help to keep it open and she needs it now. Her wish >> list includes not only money for these people and there are children >> involved in this as well, but requires everyday things that we all >> take for granted, which include, tooth brushes, tooth paste, socks, >> underwear, razors, deodorant, warm work boots, vasoline, hair tonic >> and food for the residents. One entertainer sent over a truck load >> of food for the shelter, but when you have 20 people, eating three >> meals a day for three days a week, it rapidly is depleated and more >> is needed. Please contribute to this cause, we have and you will >> enjoy the season even more if you do. >> >> Thank you, >> >> Christian H.
