Hello, neighbors,

Sen. Jamie Raskin will address the Baltimore Ethical Society
this Sunday, Oct. 25th, at 10:30 am. I am sure this will be
a very interesting talk. The description of his talk is below.

"One Nation Under the Constitution: An Enlightenment Philosophy for
American Life"

by Senator Jamie Raskin (D-Montgomery County)

Senator Raskin became a hero to humanists across the country in 2006
when, testifying as a constitutional law expert, he told a Maryland
lawmaker: "Senator, with all due respect, when you took your oath of
office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the
Constitution; you didn't put your hand on the Constitution and swear
to uphold the Bible.". Today, as the Senator representing Silver
Spring and Takoma Park, he sits next to that legislator.

Senator Jamie Raskin received the Distinguished Service Award from the
American Humanist Association in 2008 for "standing up for
intellectual freedom and the separation of church and state."
Raskin is a professor of constitutional law at American University's
Washington College of Law and Director of its Program on Law and
Government and its Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project.
A prolific writer and public interest lawyer, Raskin is the author of
the Washington Post bestseller "Overruling Democracy: The Supreme
Court versus the American People" and "We the Students", a CQ Press
Bestseller.
