Remember, Phase II of the snow emergency plan is in effect. Drivers can park their cars for free in some school parking lots and in city-owned garages in Little Italy, Federal Hill, Fells Point and downtown Baltimore. With temperatures in the 20s today though, digging out one's car does not seem like a pleasant pastime. You are supposed to be able to call 311 to find out where your car might be if it is towed, but I'm checking to find out where the cars will be taken --- and how much it will cost to retrieve it. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Powerful Free email with security by Microsoft. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/201469230/direct/01/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I find that I post things I that I want ... > ... This is a good question. There has been some cross-posting recently, and once or twice I've mentioned this to people. I think it's good to review the list policies. Hard to believe, but these lists are now seven years old and are the longest-running mailing lists serving Charles Village. Here are the statements from the websites for the list pages with some commentary: Chat List (89 subscribers) http://charlesvillage.info/mailman/listinfo/chat_charlesvillage.info The Charles Village Chat List provides a forum to share news and friendly conversation about Charles Village. List members are expected to exercise common courtesy. Vigorous debate should be conducted on the Discussion List. The Chat List archives are public. Occasionally I see something that goes outside friendly conversation and I write to the poster. Discussion List (69 subscribers) http://charlesvillage.info/mailman/listinfo/discussion_charlesvillage.info This list is devoted to discussion of the affairs of Charles Village, a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. This list is a venue for free speech and vigorous debate. Postings are neither monitored nor reviewed by the list owner. For friendly conversation about Charles Village of a less serious nature, subscribe to the Chat List. The Discussion List archives are restricted to subscribers. When I tell people about the Discussion List, I often say that it is an unmonitored, unmoderated, civility-optional free speech forum. I will intervene only if someone shows me that there is something illegal happening, e.g., criminal conduct or hate speech. This has been an issue only once in the history of the list. Note: I am not a lawyer, but this is a protection and a responsbility I have under the federal DMCA Safe Harbor provision as an information service provider. Some examples of what I think is appropriate for each list: Send to the Chat List: announcements of neighborhood events, recommendations for contractors, safety announcements, limited commercial announcements, fun and interesting things about Charles Village or the people who live there that you want to share with the world or anybody thinking about coming to live here. Send to the Discussion List: Anything. Well, anything legal and preferably not cross-posted to the Chat List. In particular, anything involving politics (CVCBDMA bylaw revisions or reauthorization, zoning, comments about public officials or legislation) or religion (like announcing a sermon, but a pancake breakfast could go on the Chat List) or anything you don't want the whole world to read about Charles Village. Any topic that you want to debate with other members of the Discussion List. Thanks for your attention. Maybe they'll want to talk about the Anderson site development. I'd just prefer to be informed rather than inundated. So, I think maintaining the two list format is still the way to go. In my own case, I have a dogwood in back. A thin branch had a huge icicle hanging down from its end, and the branch was putting a lot of weight on my phone cable. Fortunately, I was able without too much difficulty to cut off the end of the branch, thus saving my phone service. I can only imagine how long it would have taken to get service restored if the cable had broken. Based on that experience, I would advise everyone to check utility lines. But, *stay away from electric lines*. It is too easy to get yourself electrocuted. Also, the downspout in back of my house came down under the weight of a huge icicle. Fortunately, replacing it after the snow is gone will not be a big deal. But I will not be surprised if we have a lot of such damage in CV. This is a really vicious storm. With all the wind now, there is no point to shoveling until the wind dies down. Stay inside (except for problems like utility wires and downspouts) and stay safe. This means: only authorized emergency vehicles are permitted on roadways. The CVCBD put out the alert and the City's website also shows this as well. If you haven't signed up for the Nixle or CVCBD alerts I would suggest doing do. Both have been valuable resources updating City residents on what is happening. Both have been timely with alerts on what to do and where to go for help. If you don't already have it, the City's Snow Page website is: http://www.baltimorecity.gov/Government/AgenciesDepartments/Transportation/TheSnowPage.aspx The City Snow Page shows all free City lots and it also shows which streets are on snow emergency routes. The Baltimore Police notice site is at http://local.nixle.com . You should sign up for this. Also go to the Charles Village Community Benefits District website to sign up for Crime and Grime alerts is at http://www.charlesvillage.org . Residents are urged to listen to radio and television for updates. Those interested in additional information and throughout this weather event can visit www.396snow.com or call the city's snow line at 410-396-SNOW. Update to JHU's nieghborhood parking option: ONLY the Ellerslie lot @ 33rd across from the Y is FREE to neighbors for parking &with the restrictions noted previously (responsibility of parkers there to dig themselves out if there is more snow, JHU has no liability, and there is no parking of more than three days in a row). All other JHU lots are subject to hourly rates. For folks desperate for a place to move their cars -- this from Charlie Kelly. Years ago he told me that when the snow plans impact CV, he moves his car to the garage across from the Charles Theater and leaves it there until streets are clear. Just a thought for those who are desperate and willing to pay the daily fee ($8, the last time I parked there). Lee Truelove Some people are using the Union Memorial Parking Garage and some are using the Future Care Parking lot for a fee. Stage II was implemented on Monday so cars on snow emergency routes will have to be moved for plowing as soon as Stage III is lifted. You view a graphic display of the paper on the left side of your screen, and when you click on a story, it opens a text display on the right side (as though you were reading it on a standard web page). Kathleen and I were long-time subscribers, but we cancelled a few months back when we got sick of all the ads and the dramatic cut in the number of stories. We will see whether this is still in effect for Thursday's recycling collection. A quick look at a few alleys tells me that some are not yet clear enough for trash trucks, so I personally agree with the decision by the DPW simply to ask residents to put trash out in front. Also, I have seen bags of trash left from last week. Please move them to where they will be picked up, and in the future, please use trash cans with lids. And I have seen recycling in plastic bags. Although the City has been picking those up, they require more work for the City to process. Please use paper bags, cardboard cartons or recycling bins (and you may use a regular trash can if it is labeled as recycling). Also, when it is windy, try to see to it that your recycling will not be picked up by the wind, perhaps by putting cans and bottles on top of the paper. If you ever need to process slide film, Blakeslee Advertising at 916 N. Charles offers this service to the public (as of a year ago). I occasionally shoot slides in an old stereo camera, and this is where I go for processing. --Emil On Fri, Feb 26, 2010 at 09:06, Daniel Grayskull wrote: > > Does anyone know if there are any places in the local area that still develops film? > > My mother purchased a roll of film last Christmas for her camera for family pictures and has been trying to find a place to get them developed.
