Judy,

Nixle give you bulletins about crimes and other problems in the City.  
You can subscribe for cell phone text messages or for emails to your 
computer or both.  Yes, the bulletins sent about trash collection were 
forwarded by Christine and me to the chat list, but there are other 
bulletins on Nixle.  So I personally recommend signing up.

You may want the emails (with more detail) and not the text messages.  I 
get both and turn my phone off at night.  I also get NY Times text 
messages for news bulletins, some of which are interesting and some of 
which seem to me to be not that important.
