HI Steve: What bothers me is: with the entire City being pretty much evacuated. I just pray that looting doesn't take place.

I hope that the police are on alert.

What made me think of this was a large gang of dirt bikes on Howard Street, just an hour ago -- disrupting traffic and then riding down the street on the sidewalk and weaving in & out of traffic..

>From what I am reading, the largest earthquake centered when this one was centered was a 4.8 in 1875. This one was a 5.9, i.e. about 12 times as large (the Richter scale is logarithmic based on common i.e. base 10 logarithms, for anyone who wants to know how I made the calculation). So I take seriously the advice that a bigger shock may occur later, although probably that will not happen. Be prepared!

We experienced an earthquake in Maryland this afternoon.
Following is helpful information from Mike Hilliard at HARBEL.

Federal Emergency Management Agency's instruction pertaining to what
to do during an earthquake:

http://www.fema.gov/hazard/earthquake/eq_during.shtm

Please share wth your neighbors.

Also:

911 systems in Maryland are overwhelmed with calls relating to the
earthquake. Unless you have an emergency please do not call 911.
