Subject: [Chat] Letter to JHU

Here is a copy of an email I just sent to JHU. This is a real problem in our neighborhood:

----------------------------------------

I am a resident of Charles Village and every day I commute around lunch time south on St. Paul. On dozens of occasions, I have had JHU students walk right in front of my car, even though I have a green light and they have a 'Don't Walk' sign. The most egregious locations are at 33rd by the Barnes and Noble and 31st Street by Donna's. I purposely drive below the speed limit in these areas as I have had a few close calls. Today was the worst, as thank goodness my car has great brakes, preventing me from hitting three Hopkins students who walked right in front of my car while laughing the entire time as their friends laughed and shouted at them to run across the street. JHU students need to be reminded that Charles Village is not their 'campus,' nor are they in a small New England town ... they are in a large metropolitan city and their campus is in the heart of it.

I have lived in Charles Village for 8 years and have had mostly positive experiences with JHU students but this is a real problem. Their safety is being put at risk, and I am in jeopardy of being involved in a horrific accident just because they cannot seem to follow a simple "Walk/Don't Walk" sign, despite their near perfect SAT scores.

Thank you,
Greg Alexander
