Judy:
Here is Deputy Major Worley's response to our request for assistance in
locating the suspicious person who was knocking on doors on 1/31, based upon
the detailed description and location you provided:
Sharon,
I will have something put on the Special Attention list so that the
officers are on the lookout for him. As soon as anyone sees anything like this they
should immediately call 911. Unfortunately, someone like this is just
looking to take advantage of someone and most of the time they are targeting the
elderly, so please make sure everyone looks out for their neighbors. They
also use this as a chance to knock on a door to see if anyone is home. If they
don't get an answer they may go to the rear or break in the front. If
someone answers they ask for someone who doesn't exist or make up a story.
We haven't been experiencing any problems like this recently. However, if
someone comes to your door soliciting anything ask them for ID. If they are
legitimate they will have no problem showing you their ID. In most cases the
ID is hanging around their neck to clearly identify them. Even if that is
the case, ask to see it or just deny them any contact and say your aren't
interested.
The best advice I can give is that if something doesn't seem right, it
usually isn't. Call us and let us investigate.
Please let me know if you need anything else or you get any more
information.
Thank you,
Deputy Major Richard Worley
