Mr Hill,
thank you for the clarification on those items.
I had asked, and been told a couple of months ago
by Diana that funding was a slow process.
Other more recent inquiries have gone unanswered.

I was at the site the day of the event for quite awhile and never
saw any kids - They must have arrived after I left.
My apologies to them.

The only other thing I might like to see is better
communication with the neighborhood about this issue.
When one is left in the dark, one begins to assume the worst.

Tweefie:

This project has not fallen to the wayside; we have every intention of
completing it once we get the funding to do so.

The holdup is funding. We have run into a situation that I have never seen
before in my 30 years of working with funding agencies. We applied for a
grant and received an award letter. We waited for the funds which never
arrived. When we inquired we were told they had no record of either the
award letter or our application. We sent them our file copies of both. To
complicate matters further, the pot of money the agency was using came from
Home Depot for summer greening projects and had to be expended by the end of
September. The agency is now trying to figure out if and when they can honor
their award to us using other funds. Meanwhile we have to wait. Believe me
this situation is probably almost as frustrating for us as it is for you.

There were in fact about 8-10 children from Barclay school at the event;
Tamara Payne - a CVCBD Board member - brought them and helped organize the
work they did that day.

In the Charles Village Benefits District Annual Report 2012 Newsletter,
there were a couple of photos and blurb on page 2 about the "Greening
Project" on Vineyard lane, which took place on June 14th. I would like to
point out a couple of items that were incorrectly portrayed.

There were no Barclay students that I know of there that day ...
However, the residents of Vineyard Lane who were there working were not
mentioned at all.
As of this writing, the "Reading Garden" it was supposed to become,
compliments of the CVCBD efforts and grant money, has failed to materialize.
And, lastly, as everyone should know, it is obviously not located in
Waverly.

While I personally am grateful that the CVCBD has someone come by
periodically and pick up trash and mow the lot, I am less than pleased with
the fact that after much pomp and circumstance about the project, and once
Mary Pat Clark and the media left, the plan seems to have fallen by the
wayside. I am content with a small green space there, but for the CVCBD to
have made promises, and announced the noble effort to the public, and then
just drop it, is disingenuous. It leaves people to assume that the plan
proceeded as advertised, when in fact, the reality is that there has been no
change, and the agreement between the lot owner and the CVCBD for basic care
is as it has been for several years.
