Dear Community:<br>

Heart's Place Shelter, located at the rear of St. John's UMC on 27th
Street needs your help this year. With the dire economic conditions
that many people face with the downturn in the economy, contributions
to Heart's Place have dropped considerably and they fear that they may
have to close their shelter at some point in December of this year. It
only takes $2,720 a week to keep the shelter open, which provides,
food, clothing, shelter, help in finding residences in the city,
emotional support and good cheer to those of the community who are
homeless.<br>

Being homeless today doesn't mean that you are lazy, or a drunk and/or
a drug user. Being homeless today means that entire families are left
on the street after losing their jobs, their homes and in part a great
deal of their lives to the economic conditions that now plagued our
country. Heart's Place Shelter has offered a helping hand over the
years and continues to do so now during the colder time of the year and
it is done with the inspiration and guidance of one woman, Mrs. Carol
Berman. She somehow manages to keep the shelter open by getting
volunteers to assist in the preparation of food and provide emotional
and educational assistance to those who stop at the shelter.<br>
<br>
Now she needs help to keep it open and she needs it now. Her wish list
includes not only money for these people and there are children
involved in this as well, but requires everyday things that we all take
for granted, which include, tooth brushes, tooth paste, socks,
underwear, razors, deodorant, warm work boots, vasoline, hair tonic and
food for the residents. One entertainer sent over a truck load of food
for the shelter, but when you have 20 people, eating three meals a day
for three days a week, it rapidly is depleated and more is needed.
Please contribute to this cause, we have and you will enjoy the season
even more if you do. <br>
