Complete and fax to Northern District as a Charles Village
resident the application for a crime watch number to use when
you call 911 in place of your name and police will come more
quickly than an anonymous call. The Chat List will not allow
me to attach the application so I will send it to you under
separate cover.<br>

Make your call to 911 concise, clear, and without emotion
giving the physical description and the location. The sooner
the 911 operator gets off the phone with you, the sooner, he
or she can call dispatch. Dispatch takes the calls and
forwards them to officers on patrol according to the
seriousness of the complaint and the number of officers on
patrol in the vicinity. <br>

If the police do not respond in a timely manner, let me know
so that I can notify Deputy Major Worley and he will check
with dispatch to see why the call was not responded to sooner
and get back to me. <br>

I will ask Deputy Major Worley to check with dispatch for that
date and time to see what factors may have contributed to the
police not responding in time identify and question the
suspect.<br>

Do I have to use some type of code in order for the police
to arrive in a timely fashion and while the person is still
ar'd? I know what to do in these situations but again the
elderly can be victimised. I hope to remain quick when I get
more elderly.<br>

I will have something put on the Special Attention list so
that the officers are on the lookout for him. As soon as
anyone sees anything like this they should immediately
call 911. Unfortunately, someone like this is just looking
to take advantage of someone and most of the time they are
targeting the elderly, so please make sure everyone looks
out for their neighbors. They also use this as a chance to
knock on a door to see if anyone is home. If they don't
get an answer they may go to the rear or break in the
front. If someone answers they ask for someone who doesn't
exist or make up a story. <br>

We haven't been experiencing any problems like this
recently. However, if someone comes to your door
soliciting anything ask them for ID. If they are
legitimate they will have no problem showing you their ID.
In most cases the ID is hanging around their neck to
clearly identify them. Even if that is the case, ask to
see it or just deny them any contact and say your aren't
interested. <br>
<br>
The best advice I can give is that if something doesn't
seem right, it usually isn't. Call us and let us
investigate.<br>
