Hello Block Leaders
I just wanted to follow up with those of you who could not make the meeting
last week. It was not a long meeting, but some good things came out of it:
-There are still greening grants and funds available for block projects
should you need them. Please contact us about these opportunities.
-National Night Out is coming up on August 1st! Be sure to schedule your
porch sit, block party or barbeque that evening. It's a Tuesday, and a big
night for outdoor neighborhood events. There should be a gathering in the
green space at 22nd and N Calvert, and one in the Abell green space as well.
CVCA will likely be doing something and I will get that information out to
you as it comes in. Let me know if you need assistance organizing something
on your block!
-As you may have heard, there have been some recent changes at the CVCBD.
Janet Levine has left the organization and Odette Ramos is working as the
interim Executive Director. Odette will be with us for three months to work
on systems and transition to a new Executive Director which the board will
be searching for very soon. Feel free to call and talk to me if you have
input or questions.
-Linda, our new office manager, is out on vacation. We have a temporary
office manager named Tonya, and it is likely to be her cheery voice you'll
hear if you call the office. Linda will be back at the end of August
-My last day with the CVCBD is coming up in about three weeks. During the
transition you may field questions to Bob Brinkman, the Harwood Community
Liaison. Bob is at extension 13, and his email is bob at charlesvillage.org. A
new Block Leader Coordinator will start with the CVCBD by mid-September.
-I attended a Remington Assn Meeting (where I now live) last week and met
Victor Mitchell of the Department of Public Works. He gave a presentation
and stressed that the sewer project that is coming to the area will create a
severe problem with rats in the area. If you are in the immediate area where
the sewer work will be done, be sure to call 311 to talk to them about the
rat problem. Have your neighbors call as well. These areas must be baited
before work is done.
-Barbara Henry of the 300 block of E 25th Street has had some success with
getting the rat rub-out program to come to her block to bait. She obtained
the consent form from the CVCBD office and had her neighbors fill them out.
She then faxed the form in to the city- the fax number is on the form. If
you would like some of these forms for your block, let me know! I can email
it to you or we can make you copies here. If you need to fax them from here
we can do that too, once your neighbors have completed the forms. The city
has still not gotten out to do a walk-through with Barbara, but they are at
least baiting for the rats.
-And last but not least, I have a small gift to give to each and every one
of you. If you are able to stop by the office some time, I would love to be
able to give it to you in person. If not I will stop by your home and drop
if off or at least leave it for you where I can. I probably won't get the
chance to drop them off before the first week of August. If you attended the
meeting, you have already received your gift. They were made possible by a
grant from Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc.
Let me know if there are any questions or needs. Thank you for your
continued dedication to the neighborhood!
