[Chat] Mars Opposition and Herman Heyn tonight

Herman is out again with his telescope tonight.  (See below.  Thanks
to Sandy for passing this on.)

On Thursday night, Kathleen and I went to the observatory
at Bloomberg Hall to view Mars in opposition.  The line was
really long -- there were probably 300 people there.  We
waited for two hours before giving up and going home...

My father who runs the Mt. Cuba Astronomical Observatory
in Greenville, DE says he got 200 calls from interested people
last week and over 100 visitors.  He also reported that
Stockton College in NJ had 1000 visitors Thursday night.

WEATHER PERMITTING, TONIGHT (SATURDAY, 8/30), BETWEEN 9:30-11:30PM,
HERMAN HEYN, NEIGHBORHOOD "STREET CORNER" ASTRONOMER, WILL
SET UP HIS GREAT TELESCOPE ON ST. PAUL ST. (ACROSS FROM EDDIES) FOR
LOOKS AT MARS. HERMAN SAYS THAT EVERYBODY SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE
PLANET'S SOUTH POLAR ICE CAP AND SOME DARKISH SURFACE FEATURES. TO
DETERMINE IF WEATHER IS PERMITTING, HERMAN SAYS TO GO OUTSIDE BETWEEN
9-10PM AND LOOK STRAIGHT UP.
IF YOU CAN SEE THE BRIGHT STAR, VEGA,  FIGURE THE SKY IS PROBABLY "GO!".
ALTERNATELY, LOOK FOR BRIGHT MARS, ITSELF, RISING LOW IN THE SOUTHEAST.
