Emil,

I forwarded Tweefie's message about the books to both the mayor and Russell
at the Book Thing.

Tweefie! That's amazing. Haven't the Barclay administrators
heard of the Book Thing? Or is this part of the Baltimore
City "Paperless Schools" initiative under which all children
will be supplied with high-end workstations and 22-inch LCD
flat panel monitors and access to digital libraries, hence
eliminating the need for physical books... ;-)

My neighbors, Connie and Chase, discovered that Barclay School was
hauling out, FOR THE TRASH ....Tons and tons of BOOKS...
Im not talking about outdated textbooks, or moth/mouse eaten, pages
missing, scribbled all over, old school books.
It appears they have dumped a library full of perfectly good books.
Works of Mark Twain, Stevenson, Julie of the Wolves, Good Night Moon,
many many other timeless childrens books. Art books of all kinds, some
in
complete sets at that. Large hard bound coffee table type books about
just about everything.....Caldacott winning Novels for young adults, And
much much more. All in perfect condition, some with protective plastic
covers, and with the Barclay Library card still in the
back.................. WHAT is WRONG with THIS picture !?!?! .....
Perhaps none of the Barclay children can read, so they figured;
Why have books ? Isnt it the Balto City Public School system who is
screaming all the time that it has no resources ?
No money ? NO BOOKS ?!?!?!?!
Did no one over there even THINK of alternatives to the trash ? !
And why not ? Even recycling would have been a better choice...
Certainly there is an organization somewhere who would love to have them
...Donate them to something ..A really poor, rural school system who
appreciates books. ..Goodwill or Salvation Army perhaps?
Or offer them to the students and other people for free...
Connie and Chase loaded their car, back seat and trunk, to the gills,
and
have taken it all over to the 'Book Thing' on 27th/St Paul.
They may have to make a second trip.
'Farenheight 451' here we come.
Anyone have the Mayors E-mails address ?
