FYI

Plans for two public hearings to discuss redrawing City Council district
lines were announced at last night's council meeting.

The first hearing will take place at 5 p.m. tomorrow (Wed-2/26) in the council chambers on the fourth floor of
City Hall. The second will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday (2/27) in the auditorium of City College at 33rd Street and
The Alameda. The meetings were scheduled for last week but were postponed because of the record snowfall.
A voter referendum last year requires that the council's representation be changed from six, three-member
districts to 14 single-member districts. Last month, Mayor Martin O'Malley submitted a redistricting plan, and
the council has 60 days to amend it or pass a different one. If the council has taken no action after 60 days,
O'Malley's plan will take effect and that map would be used for subsequent elections.
