Yes, colors in the dark red tones do take lots and lots of coats to reach
the final, desired color.  We were rather shocked ourselves when a painter
some years ago began a paint job in a room we wanted to be a very deep
rasberry and it first came out shocking pink!  Later it was perfect.

I'm glad to have the information on the use of pink primer.  It should help
with some rooms I want to paint.
