6,800 volunteers expected tomorrow for trash sweep in city

April 16, 2004

Mayor Martin O'Malley plans to kick off Baltimore's fifth "Super
Spring Sweep Thing" tomorrow morning, joining an anticipated 6,800
volunteers in picking up trash in the city.

The mayor will start the event at 9 a.m. outside Dunbar High School,
1400 Orleans St. in East Baltimore. Volunteers with 314 community
groups will be spread across Baltimore, picking up trash on road
shoulders and medians, and in alleys, vacant lots and back yards.

The city's Department of Public Works is trying to find companies
willing to donate trucks and trash bins to help remove debris. To
offer assistance, call 410-396-9572.
