KEEP FARES FAIR! 

Hearings are coming up next week for legislation to
keep transit fares from skyrocketing this summer! Last
year, MTA transit riders were hit with fare increases
of 20% or more. There will be even steeper increases
in fare in 2004 if the General Assembly does not act.
Fortunately, two important bills have been introduced
to keep transit riders from having to cover even more
costs with their fares. 

The Senate Budget & Taxation Committee has scheduled a
hearing on Senate Bill 282 for Wednesday, February
18th at 1:00 p.m. The House Appropriations Committee
has scheduled a hearing on House Bill 682 for February
26th at 11:00 a.m. 

The Committee members need to hear from you! For the
Senate Bill, send an e-mail to Committee Chair Sen.
Ulysses Currie, who is also sponsoring the bill.
E-mail him to express your support and thank him for
