[Chat] light bulb

Speaking of light bulbs, when the light bulb on my porch ceilng burned out
last summer, I had a hard time removing the old glass cover—sort of shaped
like a large ball.

I changed the bulb but then couldn’t get the cover to stay on—rust and weak
screws.

Anyway, I bought a neat product at Home Depot. It’s a light bulb shaped
like the old glass cover—a huge ball.

That got rid of the cover problem.

It looks nearly like the porch light covers that were used years ago around
here.

Anyway, next time you’re near 2706 Calvert, take a look.

Subject: [Discussion] nice guy, that john spurrier

So my fellow Charles Villager John Spurrier came over all prepared this
morning to do a full change-out of the porch light fixture, but as it turns
out, the fixture was already of the type that accepts normal-sized bulbs--
it's just that the bulb that had been in it was amber-mercury. So, John took
the cover off, took out the amber-mercury bulb, handed it to me; I took it
inside, put it with the other burned-out bulbs in the basket in the lobby,
and grabbed a 60-watt white-light long-lasting "director's bulb" from the
new package that was in there. Then I gave that to John; he screwed it in,
put the cover back on, and voilà. Simple enough! Gee, and to think I went
through all that grief about the potential need to get the whole fixture
replaced. John and I both agreed that had either of us known about the
presence of a normal-sized fixture in that porch lamp before, this could
have been done months or even years ago.

Love you all, and thanks again John. I can sit out on my porch now! :-) And
people can see my place from their cars when they drive by

Christian, if you feel left out, don’t. You did the best job you knew how to
do, and for that, I am grateful. It was wonderful to finally meet you and
Pam. I appreciate you taking the time for me on this, and for thinking of me
re that other lamp you’d been talking about.

Nico
