Members of the Old Goucher Community Association are invited and
encouraged to attend a special Charles Village Community meeting on
the progress of the Charles Street National Scenic Byway Project to be
held at Lovely Lane Methodist Church on Monday, December 5th from 6 PM
to 8 PM.

Following is a brief history of the Charles Street Byway Management
Plan Committee.

The Federal Highway Administration's Scenic Byway Program awarded
Baltimore City funds to conceder pursuing the application process for
Charles Street to become a National Scenic Byway.

A Charles Street Byway Management Plan was formed by Baltimore City and
Baltimore Country, which hired two private consultants, an engineering
firm and a landscape architect firm to work with the Baltimore City
Planning Commission. People from various city and county agencies,
institutions and citizens living and working along the Charles Street
corridor were invited to attend monthly public meetings for the past
year to work as an advisory group to decide whether to pursue the Byway
designation. The group identified the assets, problems and obstacles to
becoming a National Byway.

Obtaining a National Scenic Byway designation can give access to new
Federal and State dollars to make improvements to the street and
corridor, protect and promote the unique qualities of the corridor,
lead tourist beyond the Inner Harbor, and provide a link between the
City and County.
