[Chat] Hardwood floor refinishing

Is he related to Bobby Severe?  We had our floors done in 2000 when we first bought our place.  The company was called
Old World Floors.  Two other companies we got estimates from said that the floors were too thin and we needed new floors.
Like a lot of you, we have red pine/heart pine/georgia pine on our stairs and upper floors, not *hardwood* per se.
Bobby was willing to do it but explained that because of the thinness of the tongue in groove there was a risk that in a few
spots there might be splitting.  In the few places it happened, he glued it down and put some wood putty in the spaces.
Also in a couple of spots he took boards out of the closets to repair visible areas and replaced the closet floor with pieces
that didn't really match.  Nice to work with someone who can come up with creative solutions.
Not perfectly pretty but definitely better than new floors everywhere because a few spots were too thin.  Also he was one
of the few companies back then who offered water based polyurethane (more environmentally friendly) instead of oil based.
Anyway a few years ago, I was thinking we could use some help in the high traffic areas and tried to get in touch but
first the voicemail was full and the the number was disconnected.  Basically, I just dropped the idea because I already
knew the other companies just wanted to sell us new floors.

Mike Severe ended up giving us a reasonable price and dealing with our beat-up old floors - even replaced about 20 boards throughout and made them match so you can't tell. He is an absolute character, but does great work. Another friend on our block also used him and had great results as well. For the full second story and stairway as well as replacing many boards and other repairs (beyond refinishing) it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $2500 I think...
