New Traffic Patterns Scheduled to be Implemented for the Charles Street Reconstruction Project

Detour Route to be Implemented on or about May 6

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that new traffic, parking and pedestrian patterns will soon be implemented along a portion of Charles Street, as the Phase I Detour goes into effect for the Charles Street Reconstruction Project.

Starting on or about Monday, May 06, 2013, northbound Charles Street from 28 th Street to University Parkway will be open only for local traffic and emergency vehicles . Motorists traveling northbound on Charles Street will be diverted at 28 th Street to continue north on Calvert Street. Southbound commuters will continue to use St. Paul Street as an alternate route during construction.

Throughout the project, east-west streets will remain open for commuters, including the connection along Charles Street between Art Museum Drive and 33 rd Street. Periodic weekend closures may be implemented as needed on Charles Street between 25 th and 28 th Streets.

During construction, businesses will remain open and local traffic will be maintained along this stretch of Charles Street. The project will cause a decrease in unrestricted parking areas in this vicinity. Limited parking will be available on Charles Street for business and local access, and residential parking permits (RPP) will be maintained throughout the project. Please note that the majority of available parking in this area will consist of temporary ‘back-in’ angle parking.

Detours due to construction along this portion of Charles Street are expected to remain in effect through the Fall of 2014. For additional information and project updates, please visit www.CharlesStreetReconstruction.com .
