Christine,

On Monday evening, CPHA and our many allies won a major victory when the
City Council approved a new inclusionary housing policy for Baltimore! Now
that demand for homes in Baltimore is increasing, this bill says we are
going to chart a new course. We are not going to allow the supply of new
homes to be limited to prices of $300,000 and above, pushing lower-income,
long-time residents to the most distressed areas of the city. Rather, the
bill establishes a framework to ensure a supply of homes at all income
levels in developments of 30 or more homes. That way the doctor, the nurse,
and the home health aide -- the principal, teacher, and school custodian can
all benefit from Baltimore's resurgence.

for more information on this historic bill and the impressive coalition that
brought it about. Thanks also goes to lead bill sponsor Councilman Bernard
"Jack" Young, Mayor Sheila Dixon, Council President Stephanie
Rawlings-Blake, and Land Use Committee Chair Ed Reisinger for their
leadership in passing the bill on an expedited timetable.

The next step in CPHA's Baltimore City agenda is keeping the belongings of
evicted tenants in their hands and off our neighborhood streets. Right now
evictions clutter our streets more than 7,000 times each year, consuming
more than $800,000 in taxpayer money to clean up. On Tuesday, June 19, at
4:00 pm, City Councilman Kenneth N. Harris, Sr. will hold a committee
hearing on the "Clean Streets" bill, sponsored by him and other
councilmembers, that would stop this embarrassing and wasteful practice.
Please let me know if you can attend this crucial hearing! You can also

transportation and drug treatment. If you or someone you know is

positions.

Finally, thanks to you and everyone who made our 65th Anniversary
Celebration in April such a success. Our executive director Michael
Sarbanes is on temporary leave, but, on behalf of the CPHA board and staff,
we very much appreciate the outpouring of support that made it such a
special celebration of CPHA's past and future. Working with you, we are
looking forward to CPHA's next 65 years of informed citizen action!
